What's the Gen Z perspective? Fairness!

A man is blaming his co-worker’s age for her reaction to not being credited during a meeting. The man said his colleague publicly called him out for not crediting her idea during a client meeting.

“Am I dealing with an adolescent who needs a little more life experience, or am I being a stubborn [a-------?]” he asked.

The co-worker replies, ‘Well, it would have been nice to get credit for it.’

This important article from Latoya G. at People Inc. highlights generational stress points and differences in expectations and values. That's why I co-created the new masterclass, GenShift: From Tension to Teamwork with Katherine Jeffery, PhD. The online course offers insights and strategies to improve communication across generations. You can take the masterclass and/or license it for your organization.

As Dr. Jeffery writes, "When we start to see generational tension as a signal, not a setback, everything shifts. Teams listen better. Leaders communicate with empathy. And workplaces move from frustration to collaboration. If you’ve ever wondered how to bridge those gaps in your own team, this course was built for you."

Back in this situation - the article says that on Reddit, the majority of responses to the post blasted the man for not giving his co-worker credit for her work and blaming her age when she stood up for herself.

“[You are the a-------]. This is not a generational issue,” one person commented. “A gen Xer, male or female, would be equally irritated. You took credit for 100% of a project when you owed 50% to your colleague. Apologize and stop doing it. Give credit where credit is due.
